Choose Jewish Hospital

You’ll notice what makes us different from the moment you see the hospital’s location: easy to find, easy to get into, and parking right next to the hospital in a free, covered garage. And once in the hospital, you’ll immediately feel the warmth and friendliness of every associate. Walking through the lobbies, you’ll hear the soothing sounds of our specialty television station, especially designed to broadcast relaxing music and images of nature.

We’re proud to provide health care that’s ranked among the best in the nation. And proud of some of these extra things we do that set us apart.

Healing in Art top of page

There is a better understanding today of the importance of both the body and the mind in healing. Music and art can assist patients on the road to recovery. Jewish Hospital offers patients the “Healing in Art” program to support the mind/body connection.

We partner with local schools, whose students draw or paint pieces of art in class that are donated to the hospital. A volunteer visits patients to show them artwork, and patients can select a reproduction to take home with them if they’d like.

It’s just another way Jewish Hospital takes extra steps to help patients heal.

Pet therapy top of page

When you’re feeling stress, sometimes stroking soft fur or looking into big brown eyes can help. Research has shown that time spent with pets actually decreases blood pressure and stress levels. We’re pleased to offer our pet therapy program to all hospital patients. Our pet therapy dogs are certified, bathed and trained to visit patients in the hospital. You’ll recognize them by their vests and personal identification badges!

The pet therapy dogs are accompanied by their owners on a regular schedule. To request a visit, talk to your nurse.

Quiet time on CVSU top of page

Hospitals are busy places, filled with the activities and sounds of patients on the mend. You may hear carts moving, phones ringing, and people talking. All of those sounds can keep patients from being able to rest comfortably. And research shows that rest is a critically important part of allowing the body to heal.

The cardiovascular surgical unit, where patients spend several days recovering after having heart surgery, offers Quiet Time from 2 – 3 p.m. every day.

“We studied the unit, and discovered that there was some noise we could cut down on. It’s important to us that our patients be given the opportunity to sleep, read or enjoy other quiet activities,” said Nancy Wolpert, manager of the cardiovascular surgical unit.

During Quiet Time, the hallway lights are dimmed and signs are posted reminding visitors and staff to keep noise down. Phone ringers are turned down, and conversations are held in quiet voices. Patients are also offered refreshments and hand rubs to help them relax.

Tobacco free top of page

In 2007, Jewish Hospital joined the other hospitals of Greater Cincinnati in creating a tobacco free campus. This means that smoking and the use of other tobacco products is not allowed anywhere on our property. This includes all indoor and outdoor spaces, such as the parking garage, parking lot, sidewalks and garden spaces. It is part of our commitment to better heart health.

Community involvement top of page

Jewish Hospital has a long and proud history of serving the community. As a non-profit hospital, we provide care to anyone, regardless of his or her ability to pay. We also actively support the American Heart Association, United Way, Fine Arts Fund and much more.
